This Wiki is for all who want to learn more about growing their own food for themselves or their village and making their village and community more self sustaining.
Our plan is to make it easy for every village to produce more than enough food for all their villagers with only a single borehole. We also want to help villages be more self sustaining in other ways, such as with energy, sanitation and earning an income by building local businesses in the village. We’re adding other sites to fill those gaps all the time.
All information here is free to use, download or print.
It is very difficult to find information online for growing your own chemical free food in Southern Africa. Most information is for America or Europe where the seasons and weather is different or from companies pushing to sell chemical fertiliser or pesticides, which we don’t want.
Some words we use will be new to you. You can see what they mean here.
We are still busy writing up all this information. Some pages are still blank or don’t look nice yet but we are working to improve it. If you have information that is needed here and you can share it with all of us then please contact us to share.
Also, much information was taken from the internet. We try to link to the original article below our article. If you see that some information that is wrong or you know a better way, then please contact us to share. We’ve recently started to use ChatGPT to write many of the articles for us, especially those we know will be useful but where we ourselves are not experts in. It’s quick and efficient. We have tried to fact check everything, however, if you are an expert in a certain field and see that ChatGPT got some answers wrong, then please also contact us.
If you think this is not possible to improve your farming income or improve your village, or you need more inspiration, then watch this video of how a woman from Uganda is growing abundant food on only 4000 m2 of land!
Thanks to everyone who helped write these pages. There is a lot of good information here.
We use simple English so that everyone can learn here, even if you only have Grade 6. If you want to improve your English then you can play games on “Johnny Grammar’s Word Challenge” app.
Have a look how Cuba is growing nearly all required fruits, vegetables and even meats in local towns and villages:
Later we plan to have the option where you can choose the bioregion (growing area) you live in so that the site automatically gives you the relevant information for that area. We just need volunteers to help us build that content. We’ll use the bioregions as described here https://www.oneearth.org/bioregions.
Enjoy 🙂
